Recently, I posted about some smart solutions for cooking rice and shedding as much arsenic as possible. I found yet another solution.
I am pretty well sold on Zojirushi rice cookers, and over the years, I have given some away as presents. I am using the Zojirushi NW-QAC10 5.5-Cup Capacity Flat-Top Induction Cooker and Warmer with Custom Cooking Pan, Double Non-Stick Coating for Easy Clean-Up (Black), a bit of a mouthful, but it is a beautiful piece of equipment. Among other things, it has an insert for steaming, so that you can steam something while you are cooking your rice. Great idea.
I have also come up with an even better solution for cooking rice and shedding as much arsenic as possible, by using the GABA brown rice cycle. In all, besides being healthier, the GABA-method simply produces more nutritious and more delicious rice. I would not have it any other way, if I could help it.
Using the GABA-Brown Rice cycle for shedding arsenic
- I start with 1 cup of brown rice, in water for 2 cups.
- Use the GABA cycle for 10 minutes or so.
- Stop the machine, and drain the water.
- Add in luke warm water for 1 cup. (the GABA soak runs at 104 F).
- Now let the program run (192 mins)
That is all you need to do, at the end of the day, this is the easiest solution, and if I am in a hurry, I can still use the Koshihikari sprouted GABA brown rice, soak it for 30 minutes and then cook it like white rice.
